Democracia is a collaborative tool dedicated to promoting an unprecedented interaction between the Brazilian population and its government representatives.

The project was launched on the web by around 2000, when three social activists decided to create something like a virtual cyberdemocratic community, guided by the principle that democracy is not possible without information.

The site worked at that time similarly to a virtual congress, where people could track government decisions and politicians, see their profiles, chat with them and foster debates. Now, 7 years, 300.000 users, 1.000 governors, senators, presidents and politicians profiles later, the core concept has increased into a web 2.0 initiative, available on this Democracia beta version.

There cannot be democracy without information. That is why we want to encourage ciberativism through debates, online petitions, blogs and a virtual community focused on civic engagement and political participation. Our commitment is not only with democracy itself, but with rethinking and bridging the digital divide in Brazil and across the globe. Make people think better, to act better.

Blog

Every Brazilian citizen and politician registered in Democracia has a place to fulfill with ideas. Share knowledge, opinions and civic engajament at our Blog area and foster user’s participation. User’s blogs are still under development, but while it is being builded, you can be noticed about news visiting Democracia´s Blog.

Debates

This is the place where users can deliberate about politicians actuation, spread to the world satisfaction or disappointment, exchange opinions, interact about Brazilian politic´s news and work together to strengthen democracy in our country. If a debate gets warm in discussion, it can be converted into an on-line petition.

Petition

Here you can collect as much signatures as you want to provide changes in Brazilian politics decisions. Every petition can be delivered to a politician, an organization, a Ministry… whoever or wherever you want to. By the end of gathering together other enthusiasts of your cause, you can choose what you´ll want to do with your petition: send it to representatives through e-mail, with our help, or just have it printed. Every petition has it owns debate, where users can share information.

Poll

Promote on-line votes about your choice of subject. At Democracy poll you can create questions and answers in a virtual research. Get users opinions measured by it.
